Flock is a new web browser that lets you manage, create and share videos, photos, blogs, feeds and comments across social communities. I’ve only scratched the surface of the browser but it allows you to easily manage your accounts across many social communities including Facebook, Flicker, blogger. It also has some great drag and drop feature that allow you to store, save and upload items effortlessly. The browser is heavily based on Mozilla Firefox. I’m not sure what the take up rate will be but if you are heavily involved with online communities this could be a great time saver.

digital fitness

One of our most exciting initiatives this year has been in evangelising digital marketing through a training programme called ‘digital fitness’. The main message to marketers is: get your hands dirty, experiment, play with this stuff … and step outside your comfort zone.

We’ve spent time with some fantastic people from within our own organisation and with clients. So far almost 200 people have been exposed to this 2 day digital bootcamp.

One question that I get asked a lot, from newbies and experienced folk alike, is how to keep up with the constantly changing landscape.

The glib answer to this is “get stuck into RSS”.

But RSS only provides the best mechanism to pull in content. From web sites and blogs to podcasts, bookmarks or even photostreams and slideshows, RSS is key.
But what about the content sources?
With over 100 million blogs listed on Technorati there is a vast amount of noise to filter out.

So, to those of you who’ve asked the question, here are a few of our current favourite marketing feeds and sources. Feel free to share these – and please tell us about yours.

minuit
The BeST Design Awards are a national award programme of the Designers Institute of New Zealand, recognising New Zealand’s best graphic, product and spatial design.

These are in my opinion the two standout winners in the interactive media and website design category:

Band: minuit.co.nz
Brand: electrocity.co.nz

Enjoy.

Volvo Logo
In the UK movie goers are interacting with brands on screen through motion sensors. I posted about this technology a few months ago and this is the first branded experience I have come agross using this new technology. Read here

This is an extract from contagiousmagazine.com
Unsuspecting cinema goers around the UK are about to be involved in an interactive game on Saturday night, with audiences competing against others around the country. Volvo, the brand behind the initiative, will ask filmgoers to wave their arms to the left and right in order to control the new Volvo XC70 on screen, directing it around obstacles and running over bonuses. The aim is to score as many points as possible, and after a couple of practices, audiences at the 8.30 showing of Disney family flick Ratatouille, in twelve Cineworld cinemas will go head to head in a virtual contest. A camera placed at the front of the cinema linked with a computer records the audience’s movements and converts that to influence the car’s direction. The audience is superimposed over the game, so controllers can see the impact they’re having, and who’s not pulling their weight.

The Pet Shop Boys have released a new single which attacks UK’s national identity card system which will capture up to 50 categories of information on citizens including up to 10 fingerprints, digitised facial scan and iris scan. Big Brother is here. Hidden within the video are over 100 subliminal 2D barcodes. When scanned by reader-enabled camera phones a url is revealed that points the user to various civil rights websites. This seems like one of those great uses of digital technology in the right context and medium.

Toyota have produced a xbox live game for the Yaris. It’s funny because a few years ago when I was an another agency we pitched to Toyota a game where you could race online against competitors. At the time I think they were taken back by the cost. How things change in a couple of years. After doing a quick bit of research it is revealed that the game will be free to all xbox owners who can download it from the xbox live service. I think the fact that Burger King did so well with their XBOX KING GAMES may have influenced the decision to build the game.
