Mojo Sydney and Toyota have just launched the new Corolla campaign. The headliner is a 60 second piece for cinema and is also accompanied by a 45 for television, and a 15 to be launched in January, as well as outdoor and a completely re-created corolla site.

Based on the idea ‘Packed with a lil’ action’ the campaign tells the story of a kitten headed hero who battles a gang of feral baddies, and escapes in his Corolla. A departure from previous campaigns for Corolla, “Kittens” was created to connect to a younger audience and showcase a new edge for the brand.

Shot on location in an abandoned shopping mall on the outskirts of Melbourne by Garth Davis from Exit Films, the ambitious production was a combination of very well rehearsed fighting sequences, and real, cuddly kitten heads. Read more

persepolis
Persepolis, an animated film about a young girl in Iran during the islamic revolution is very similar to my story and that’s why i was taken by it….but the thing that impressed me most was the website about the film.

This website is a work of art. With easy navigation it’s also very functional.

OK, so maybe a feature length film about a typeface isn’t your idea of a good time.

The fact is though Helvetica has such a broad social prevalence that it’s impact on modern ‘rational’ forms of communication is certainly deserving of such inquiry.

Graphic Design on the Radio was a series of one-hour radio shows broadcast in the summer of 2007. The programmes featured interviews with leading graphic designers who talked about their work and played music that inspired or influenced them. Luckily for you it’s now available online (gasp!).

Includes: Jonathan Barnbrook, Neville Brody, Malcolm Garrett, Michael C Place, Fred Deakin, Vaughn Oliver, Rick Poynor and Angus Hyland.

The chances are the desktop you are working on right now isn’t all that dissimilar from the one pictured above. Sure you’ve got full coloured glossy icons with transparent reflections (and other minor improvements), but the underlying functionality of the Graphic User Interface is basically identical to those developed in the early 1980’s. The experience hasn’t changed.

However recently we’ve seen greater innovation in this area with technologies like Multitouch finding increased application and development.

BumpTop is another fascinating example, seeking to fundamentally alter the way we interact with digital information, providing a more tactile and intuitive user experience.

Most people will have heard of brands trade marking their colours but have we gone too far? Should anyone actually own a colour in their brand category?

Deutsche Telekom, mother company for T-Mobile in Holland, has registered magenta to prevent other companies in Holland from using this colour for their communication devices, logos or stationary. A lot of debate has surrounded the issue, for example Lava, a graphic design company in Amsterdam has created a website to fight for magenta’s rights to be free to use by all: http://www.freemagenta.nl/?page_id=121 -It shows how life would be if we could not use magenta anymore.
