The chances are the desktop you are working on right now isn’t all that dissimilar from the one pictured above. Sure you’ve got full coloured glossy icons with transparent reflections (and other minor improvements), but the underlying functionality of the Graphic User Interface is basically identical to those developed in the early 1980’s. The experience hasn’t changed.

However recently we’ve seen greater innovation in this area with technologies like Multitouch finding increased application and development.

BumpTop is another fascinating example, seeking to fundamentally alter the way we interact with digital information, providing a more tactile and intuitive user experience.
